ARLINGTON, Texas – Junior third baseman Eric Tate hit a one-out, bases loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth capping off a four-run rally to propel UT Arlington to a 5-4 win over No. 2 Louisiana Lafayette as the Mavericks avoid the home sweep. UTA trailed 4-1 entering their last at bat with Cajuns’ junior righty Greg Milhorn coming on to close out the game.

Mavs’ junior Ryan Bottger (1B/LF) led-off the inning with a walk and senior catcher Greg McCall singled him to third base from which he would score on a wild pitch as McCall moved into scoring position with the tying run coming to the plate. Pinch hitter Jackson Morris (Jr.) drew a walk and then junior Levi Scott (1B) doubled to the gap in left center scoring McCall to cut the lead to one.

The Cajuns’ turned to freshman righty Regan Bazar hoping to end the threat and preserve the win but instead he hit sophomore second baseman Darien McLemore with an 0-1 pitch to load the bases. Pinch hitter Brandon Vineyard (Sr.) reached safely on a fielder’s choice that scored Morris to tie the game. The next pitch hit Derek Miller (Jr., CF) to load the bases for the second time in the inning, setting up Tate’s walk-off game winner.
