On Friday morning it was announced that Mark Kingston was leaving USF to become the new Head Coach at South Carolina. I have learned USF Pitching Coach Billy Mohl will take over the head coaching responsibilities, effective immediately. An official announcement is due shortly.

Mohl’s resume is solid and has established himself as one of the premier up and coming pitching coaches in college baseball. Now he will get to establish himself as a head coach. Mohl arrived at USF three years ago after five seasons with Kingston at Illinois State

This years Bulls staff posted a program record 620 strikeouts, and it was the third-consecutive season of at least 500 strikeouts. The team’s 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings led the nation.

Mohl will begin assembling a coaching staff, don’t expect it to include a pitching coach. That’s a responsibility he will continue to handle himself. For USF fans retaining Mohl will take the edge off of the sting of losing Kingston. He is well respected not only by peers, but by the USF players and not just the players. After the last game of the season on Gainesville Mohl told me, ” I love my kids Don”.
