Louisiana Lafayette Perfect in Series Win

Lousiana LafayetteLAFAYETTE, La. – No. 2 Louisiana Lafayette remained perfect in series this season with 9-1 win over Louisiana Monroe at Tigue Moore Field on Friday night and will finish the regular season without a series loss. The Cajuns won their final series last season to make for 15 consecutive weekend series victories.

Carson Baranik and Matt Plitt combined allowing only an earned run on six hits and a walk and struck out eight Warhawks. Baranik improved to 10-1 on the season and Plitt earned a five-inning save since he entered the game in the fifth with the Cajuns leading 3-1.

Ryan Leonards led the Cajuns’ attack with two hits, two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Greg Davis also had two wits, one of which being a game-tying solo homer in the second. Leonards would strike again with a two-run double in the sixth inning that gave the Cajuns an 8-1 advantage.

Michael Strentz took the lead for ULL with a solo shot in the third that would be followed up by an RBI double by Jace Conrad, his only hit on the day, to build a 3-1 lead.

Seth Harrison and Tyler Girouard each added an RBI double in the fifth to extend the Cajuns’ lead to 5-1. The team hitting effort was capped off by Kyle Clement’s RBI single in the seventh to close out ULL’s scoring on the day.

Sun Belt Scores

ARLINGTON, Texas – Zach ThompsonColin TornbergJacob Moreland and Chase Weaver combined to shut out Texas State 1-0 to clinch the series and move into second place in the Sun Belt. The quad allowed six hits and two walks while striking out five as Ryan Bottger had three hits while scoring the game-winning run in the eighth.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas Little Rock shut down Arkansas State for the second straight game as Sam Thoele allows two earned runs over seven innings of work to give the Trojans a 4-2 series-clinching win over the Red Wolves. A-State dropped into third place in the conference in the loss and must win and hope for a UT Arlington loss to reclaim the second seed its’ held for most of the season. Ben Crumpton led the Trojans with two RBI and a run scored.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU held Georgia State’s prolific offense in check for a second straight game as Josh Bartley and four relievers combined to hold the Panthers to a single run in a 2-1 win to clinch the series. Philip Diedrick led the Hilltoppers with two hits, a walk, a run scored and and RBI.

TROY, Ala. – Troy plated four runs in the eighth inning to defeat South Alabama 7-3 to clinch the series and for the moment knock the Jaguars out of playing in the Sun Belt tournament. Matthew Howard led the Trojans with two hits, three runs scored and hit a two-run double in the pivotal eighth inning.
