Jace Conrad, Louisiana Lafayette Win in Sun Belt Conference Tournament

MOBILE, Ala. – Jace Conrad went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two runs driven in and a pair of stolen bases to lead No. 1 Louisiana Lafayette to an 11-4 win over Texas State in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament play Thursday. Ryan Leonards had three hits and three runs scored while Caleb Adams added three hits two runs scored, two RBI and a couple stolen bases as well as the Cajuns scored 11 runs on 16 hits in the effort. The win is the Cajuns’ eighth straight as they eye a National Seed in the NCAA Regionals.

Zach Thompson allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out eight as UT Arlington remained in the winner’s bracket of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with 7-3 win over Troy. Matt Shortall lead the Mavericks’ offense with a three-run homer while Darien McLemore and Travis Sibley each added three hits and combined for two runs and three RBI. The Mavericks have won nine consecutive games and Troy will now face Arkansas State of the second time in the tournament.

Alex Hermeling throws his first complete game on the season, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out seven to lead Louisiana Monroe to a 8-6 win over Western Kentucky to knock the Hilltoppers out of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Dalton Herrington paced the offence for the Warhawks with three hits and three runs scored and Ross Moore added three RBI in the win that overcame a four RBI day by WKU’s Philip Diedrick.

Bradley Wallace allows two runs, one earned, over eight innings while striking out six as Arkansas State eliminates Sun Belt Conference Tournament host South Alabama with a 4-3 win on Thursday. Zach Maggio scored the go-ahead run in the eighth and led the Red Wolves with two runs scored and an RBI. Locke St. John pitched well for the Jaguars allowing three runs, one earned over 7.2 innings pitched with six strikeouts.

Texas State faces ULM with the winner playing the Cajuns on Saturday while the Mavericks await the winner of a tournament rematch between Troy and Arkansas State. The Trojans defeated the Red Wolves in Game 3 of the tournament.
