Gutierrez and Thornill Highlight Big 12 Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced the award winners for Player, Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week today. Sophomore Eric Gutierrez of the Texas Tech Red Raiders takes home Player of the Week while Texas Longhorns senior Nathan Thornill is the Pitcher of the Week. TCU junior Jordan Kipper and Baylor Freshman Matt Menard are co-Newcomers of the Week.

Gutierrez hit a home run and three doubles while driving in seven runs on the week. Gutierrez hit .533 with a .933 slugging percentage and scored five runs helping the Red Raiders sweep the Kansas State Wildcats.

Thornhill dominated the Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday throwing a complete game as Texas won 8-1 to sweep the series. Thornhill allowed an earned run while striking out six Sooners while improving to 6-0 on the season.

Kipper hurled a solid performance against the Dallas Baptist Patriots in a midweek game. Kippers pitched eight innings and struck out eight hitters in the performance.

Menard went 4-for-10 on the week with a double and a pair of walks while driving in two RBI and scoring a run while the Bears endured a rough week. Menard’s solid weekend was against the Dallas Baptist Patriots.
