Last week in this space, it was noted that we’ve had very few weeks where chalk seemed to hold. Every week, it seemed, the rankings were turned completely upside down, with many of the changes coming right at the top.

Lo and behold, just one week later, we¬†do have a week where most everyone is hanging tight where they were before. In fact, this week’s College Baseball Central Top 25 contains the same 25 teams from last week, with only a few changes throughout. Of course, that makes it even tougher to put the rankings together, as there are so many teams deserving of moving forward that at least a few just won’t be able to.

Texas A&M hangs onto the top spot in our rankings, even after a surprising series loss to Arkansas. Even with one blemish, they have still been far and away the most dominant team in the nation, and we wanted to continue to reward them for that.

Vanderbilt, last week’s no. 2, was our first faller, dropping five places to no. 7. Arizona State fell three places, from no. 7 down to no. 10, even after winning two of three from Washington. That’s a tough fate for the Sun Devils, but with the likes of Illinois and Florida pushing forward well into the top ten after series wins, they were bumped. Miami fell four places from no. 9 to no. 13 after their series loss to Virginia. Nebraska rounds out the fallers, moving down five places, from no. 17 to no. 22.

Louisville is our first jumper, going from no. 4 to no. 2 after a dominating sweep over Wake Forest. The aforementioned Florida Gators and Illinois Fighting Illini are our next jumpers. The Gators are up two spots from no. 8 to no. 6 after a sweep of Mississippi State. The Illini are up four spots from no. 12 to no. 8 after a 4-0 week that included a completion of their sweep of Purdue from last weekend and a two-game sweep of Indiana after Sunday’s finale was washed out. Virginia, who got off the mat this weekend and won a series at home against Miami, is up four spots, from no. 20 to no. 16 to round out our jumpers.
