College Baseball Central Top 25: 4/9/2018

The Florida Gators remain the number one team in the nation this week, but not much else in the top five stayed as is. Stanford, Mississippi, and Oregon State, the second, third, and fourth teams in the rankings, all lost series, dropping them to five, six, and seven, respectively.

Taking advantage of that vacuum at the top is Texas Tech, up three spots to number two after a 3-1 week that included a series win over Kansas. NC State also benefits, as they move from six to three after winning their series with Louisville. Arkansas is up three spots as well, to number four, after they swept Auburn. They move ahead of Mississippi in the rankings, despite the Rebels owning the head-to-head series win, in large part because Arkansas boasts a slightly better SEC record and they’ve played a more rigorous league schedule so far.

UCLA is a big jumper as well. They’re up six spots, to eight, after their series win over Stanford. They don’t move ahead of the Cardinal, despite the head-to-head result, because Stanford still owns the better full body of work. Clemson and Kentucky round out the top ten, staying in the same places as last week.

The rest of the top 15 stayed nearly exactly the same, save for Florida State dropping six spots, to 14, after they lost their ACC series with Georgia Tech.

The only other jumpers in the rankings this week are Texas A&M, up a modest two spots, to 18, after winning their series with LSU, and Coastal Carolina going from 24 to 21 after winning a conference series with South Alabama. The only other fallers are a pair of SEC teams, Georgia going from 18 to 22 after a series loss to Vanderbilt, and Missouri moving from 19 to 24 after they lost their series with Alabama.

The four new teams in the rankings are Dallas Baptist, at 19, after their 3-1 week, number 20 Wichita State after a series win over Tulane, Sam Houston State, back in at 23 after a 3-1 week of their own, and Missouri State, at 25, after they swept Evansville.

The four teams falling out this week are Auburn, LSU, TCU, and USF, all after weekend series losses.
