Last week, chaos reigned in college baseball, but much of the top of the College Baseball Central Top 25 got out unscathed. That, however, was not the case this week, as there was a seismic shift not only at the top but all throughout the rankings. Just when you thought that we all had a pretty good grasp on the cream of the crop in the game, a week like this happens.

The first shift you’ll notice is right up near the top, as both Vanderbilt and UCLA suffered precipitous drops, to nos. 8 and 9, respectively, thanks to losing weekends in the Dodgertown Classic in LA. New entrant USC, the runaway “winner” of the tournament in LA, jumps from out of the rankings all the way up to no. 10.

LSU and Texas A&M also enjoyed jumps in the rankings on the back of  great tournament performances, this time in the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park. The Tigers are now at no. 3 from their previous perch at no. 5 and the Aggies made a bigger jump, from no. 15 to no. 7.

Other notable fallers include Miami from no. 7 to no. 17 after a series loss to Louisville and Texas Tech from no. 8 to no. 20 after they were swept by the suddenly scorching-hot Cal State Fullerton.

There were also a number of teams that fell from the rankings altogether after tough weekends, including Houston, Oklahoma State, and Mississippi State.

New entrants to the rankings are the aforementioned USC, FAU, and Cal State Fullerton.
