College Baseball Central Podcast: Talking New Mexico State Baseball with Mark Rudi

On this episode of the College Baseball Central Podcast, Joe Healy talks New Mexico State baseball with Mark Rudi of the Las Cruces Sun-News.

The Aggies are building under head coach Brian Green. In his three seasons on the job, the team has gone from 11 wins to 34 wins to 35 wins last year, a season in which they also earned the top seed in the WAC Tournament. The successes have extended to the recruiting trail as well, as the program’s most recent recruiting class was nationally recognized.

Ultimately, Green and his staff are looking to establish New Mexico State as an annual contender in the WAC, a conference that feels like it’s still in search of a marquee program after several rounds of realignment have shuffled up the league’s hierarchy. Grand Canyon, Sacramento State, Seattle, Bakersfield, and Utah Valley have all shown potential and had quality seasons in recent years, but NMSU looks capable of competing with them all.

Among the topics discussed on this episode are:

  • What has been behind Brian Green and his staff’s success on the recruiting trail
  • Expectations heading into the 2018 season
  • Position battles to watch heading into the season
  • The ceiling of the program
  • Mark’s take on the state of WAC baseball

Thanks for listening, everyone!
