College Baseball Central Mid-Major 12 Rankings: 5/2/2018

This week in the Mid-Major 12 rankings, the 12 teams are the same exact 12 teams we had in the rankings last week. That’s happened before this season, but what makes this week particularly notable is that all 12 teams also won their weekend series.

Sure, there were some teams that went 2-2 on the week, but each took care of business in their conference games by winning at least two out of three.

In fact, there was just one change at all in the rankings, and that was Jacksonville and Missouri State swapping places. The Dolphins moved up one spot, to number four, while the Bears fell one spot, to number five.

It’s not that Missouri State did much of anything to warrant being moved down. They did go 2-2 last week, but their midweek loss was to a good Missouri team, and they did win their conference series against Bradley. The move is more of a recognition of the type of season Jacksonville has had, one where they’ve clearly established themselves as an at-large team into the field of 64, barring some sort of collapse down the stretch.

Because no teams fell out, no new teams enter, and that means that there is a logjam of teams that might normally have broken through that are on the outside looking in at this point. One such team is Florida Gulf Coast, which backed up a quality midweek win over Florida Atlantic with a series win over Kennesaw State over the weekend.
