After seven weeks of the Mid-Major 12 rankings, the top two teams are the exact same as they were to start the season, after both dropped back at various points of the season.

Dallas Baptist is back at the top. They’ve quietly been pretty solid ever since that series sweep at the hands of Clemson knocked them back a little bit. A road series win over Sam Houston State two weeks ago was huge, and most recently, they went 3-0 this past week. Speaking of which, Sam Houston State is back at number two after a series sweep of Abilene Christian moved their Southland Conference record to 9-0.

San Diego State, previously number one, falls back to three after a series loss to New Mexico, but with a 3-2 overall week, including a Monday win over Washington, their fall wasn’t too precipitous. Stetson is up two spots, to four, after a 4-0 week, including an impressive midweek win over USF. Missouri State is also up two spots, to five, after going 3-1.

At number six is College of Charleston, down four spots. They dropped their weekend series to Elon, but a midweek win over Coastal Carolina and their overall resume, which includes a sweep of Georgia, now a nationally-ranked team, was enough to keep them in the top half of the Mid-Major 12.

UNC-Wilmington comes in at seven, up two spots from last week, after a 3-1 week, and right behind them, Southeastern Louisiana jumps three spots, to eight. The Lions went 3-1 as well, all against in-state foes.

Creighton is a new entrant at number nine after being just on the outside for the last several weeks. The Bluejays have started to build an impressive resume, which includes a road series win over Minnesota. This past week, they went 4-0, with a midweek win over Nebraska and a series sweep of Evansville.

At ten is Mercer, up two spots. The Bears went 4-0, including a sweep of a solid East Tennessee State team. UNLV is down six spots, to 11. They took a series loss to rival Nevada this past week. The other new entrant this week is UNC-Greensboro, a team coming into the rankings for the second time this season. They went 4-1 on the week.

Out of the rankings are Saint Mary’s and St. John’s. The Gaels had a solid week, going 3-2 with a series win over Gonzaga, but they’re just 15-11 overall and 5-4 in the WCC now, and the shine of some of the wins they collected early on, such as the series win over Arizona State, has started to fade.

The Red Storm are a similar story. There is no real shame in a series loss to Minnesota on the road, but they’re just 14-9 overall, and they’re 2-7 in their nine games against Kansas, Connecticut, and Minnesota, their best chances to prove themselves against tougher competition.
