Austin Robichaux, Louisiana Lafayette Clinch Sun Belt Crown in Win

MOBILE, Ala. – Austin Robichaux returned to form throwing seven innings and allowing no earned runs as the junior helped No. 2 Louisiana Lafayette clinch the Sun Belt Conference regular season crown in a 5-2 win over South Alabama in game one of a double header Saturday at Stanky Field. The junior improved to 7-2 as he struck out eight and allowed two hits and two walks before turning things over to Ryan Wilson who pitched the final two innings scoreless to notch his sixth save.

The Cajuns continued their dominance in the middle innings scoring two runs in each the third and fourth inning in the win that wrapped up first place in the Sun Belt. Ryan Leonards drove in a run in each the third and fourth innings to help in ULL’s scoring efforts.

The Cajuns held off a late inning rally by the Jaguars to clinch the series by winning game two of the double header 8-7. The Cajuns built an 7-0 lead on a grand slam by Greg Davis and a two-run homer by Jace Conrad. Carson Baranik pitched six scoreless innings before giving up a walk and a single to lead off the seventh.

Greg Millhorn and Ryan Wilson couldn’t hold the lead as the Jags scored seven runs in the seventh to tie the game. Regan Bazar came in to get the final out of the seventh and then held South Alabama scoreless over the games’ final two innings as an RBI single in the ninth by Davis won it for the Cajuns who still have yet to lose a weekend series this season.

Sun Belt Scores

JONESBORO, Ark. – Arkansas State split a double header with Troy, as the Trojans took game one behind a stellar performance by Shane McCain who scattered five hits over eight innings allowing only an earned run in a game one win. Zach Maggio led the Red Wolves to a game two win with a two-run single in the eighth on a three hit day that gave A-State insurance runs in a 10-7 win in game two to set up a deciding game on Sunday.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Taylor Black allowed two earned runs over seven innings of work Saturday as Texas State moved back into a tie for second in the Sun Belt with a 6-2, series-tying win over Arkansas Little Rock Saturday at Bobcat Ballpark. Ben McElroy led the offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Ryan Boettger and John Michael Twichell each homered to lead Texas Arlington to a series victory with an 8-5 win over Western Kentucky at Clay Gould Ballpark on Saturday. The duo each scored twice and had two RBI in the effort that guaranteed the Mavericks at least sole possession of fourth place in the conference.

MONROE, La. – Kodie Tidwell and Jeff Fuller each had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored and Justin Stawychny drove in three runs as Louisiana Monroe evened the series with Georgia State with a 10-6 win at Warhawk Field Saturday. ULM overcame homers by Nic Wilson (17) and Matt Rose to claim the victory that sets up a Sunday rubber match.
