More weeks than not in our College Baseball Central Top 25, we’ve seen a ton of movement, but this week, that just wasn’t the case. Chalk held for most everyone in our rankings from last week.
The top ten in particular remains largely untouched, featuring just one change this time around. Illinois and Vanderbilt flipped spots, with the Illini now at no. 6 and Vanderbilt at no. 7. That’s not so much an indictment of Vanderbilt (although they did go 2-2 this week) as it is kudos for Illinois, who put together a 4-0 week including a sweep of then-no. 25 Ohio State. The winning streak for Illinois has now reached an absurd 21 games.
Only two teams, Arizona State and Maryland, suffered precipitous falls this week. The Sun Devils had a 1-3 week that included a blowout midweek loss to rival Arizona and a series loss to Cal. They dropped seven spots from no. 11 to no. 18. The Terrapins went 2-3. After winning a pair of midweek games against Delaware, they were swept at home by Indiana over the weekend. They now find themselves at no. 20, down seven spots from no. 13.
Ohio State is the only team to drop from the rankings this week after their were swept at home by Illinois. The Houston Cougars, back in at no. 25, are the only new team to the rankings. They have been out of the rankings for a few weeks after spending much of the first half of the season in our rankings.
