Big 12 Baseball: TCU’s Preston Morrison Pitches Game Shut Out

Big 12 baseballFORT WORTH, Texas - Preston Morrison hurls his third complete game shutout of the season leading TCU to another Big 12 win, this time over Kansas State 5-0 on Friday night. Morrison fanned seven Wildcats while allowing seven hits and a walk while improving to 7-3 on the season as he worked around a baserunner in every inning but the sixth when he retired K-State in order.

TCU has shut out seven of its’ last 10 opponents and has thrown 14 shutouts on the season. The Horned Frogs extend their win streak to 10 and have won 17 of their last 18 games to continue their climb that has propelled them from a bubble team to being just outside of a spot as a National Seed in the upcoming NCAA Regionals.

The Horned Frogs’ got enough run support out of Boomer White and Kevin Cron who combined to go 6-for-10 with three runs scored and an RBI on the night.

Big 12 Baseball Scores

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Harrison Musgrave allows three runs over seven innings pitched to improve to 5-3 on the year leading West Virginia to a 5-3 win over Texas in their series opener. Musgrave struck out seven in the effort while allowing 10 hits and a walk. Bobby Boyd went 3-for-5, scoring two runs and driving in two more to pace the Mountaineers offense that capitalized on five Longhorns’ errors on the night.

STILLWATER, Okla. - Tanner Krietmeier went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, knocking in a run while scoring two more as Oklahoma State drops Arizona State 8-5 in a matchup with NCAA Regionals implications. Gage Green hit a solo homer and Tim Arakawa scored twice and had a pair of RBI to help the effort.

LAWRENCE, Ks. - Kansas hurler Jordan Piche’ threw a complete game, limiting Texas Tech to only three runs while the Jayhawks’ offense poured it on in an 11-3 win. Piche’ struck out seven while allowing seven hits to keep Kansas in the game. Michael Suiter hit a home run while driving in four runs and Colby Wright drove in four runs while scoring twice to give Piche’ all the run support he would need to upset the Red Raiders.

NORMAN, Okla. - Baylor pitchers Dillon Newman and  Josh Michalec allowed only two runs as Michalec picked up his 17th save on the season as Baylor defeated the Sooners 3-2 on Friday. Michalec pitched the final two innings scoreless for the save.
